Winners of the Fantasy Film Festival

The IV Riga International Fantasy Film Festival was closed on March 7, when a cheerful and fruity dedication to Nikolai Gogol – the great Russian literature classic – was offered to the audience and guests at cinema “K.Suns”.

FFF’09 has begun!

4th Riga Fantasy Film Festival has begun!

On Friday, 27th of February Canadian director Guy Maddin’s film “Brand Upon the Brain!”opened the 4th Riga Fantasy Film Festival. Festival is being hold in cinemas “K.Suns” and “Cinamon” from 27th of February till 8th of March.

Festival’s programme offers 12 competition films which will be evaluated by international jury. The jury represented by Magnus Paulsson – founder of Lund IFFF (Sweden) and also producer of vampire-film “Frostbite” already screened in previous edition of (more…)

Press conference

4th Riga Fantasy Film Festival’s press conference was hold on 13th floor of Rietumu Banka on Thursday 19th of February.  Honor president of International Centre of Cinema Augusts Sukuts opened it inviting everyone to raise a glass to Nikolai Gogol and Jan Svankmajer whose anniversaries shall be celebrated during this edition. Nikolai Gogol – 200

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Nikolai Gogol, the FFF presented the adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s story Christmas Eve – Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka / Вечера на хуторе близ Диканьки.

Sauna – a phantom of swamp or purgatory?

The action of film is set in 1595 and it follows a group of Swedish and Russian soldiers who are assigning new borders between both countries after the 25 years long war. Swedish are represented by two Finnish brothers – a lifelong soldier who has been participating in battles and terror of war since he is 16 and his younger more pacifist brother who is an expert mapmaker. From 27th february untill 8th march of 2009 one had the opportunity to see the most recent full-length films from different regions – thrillers and horror movies in fantasy genre.

Press Release Méliès d’Or 2008 Sitges, 2008-10-09

The 2008 Méliès d’Or – for Best European fantastic film went to the Swedish genre master piece LET THE RIGHT ONE IN /LÅT DEN RÄTTE KOMMA IN by director Tomas Alfredson at the Méliès d’Or award ceremony at Sitges International Film Festival in Spain on the evening of October 9th 2008. This is the first time a Swedish film takes home the prestigious Méliès d’Or Award since its inception in 1996. (more…)
